Docs usage survey
What’s this issue all about?
We are seeking foundational information about docs users, to be gathered via survey of First Look members and potentially linked within the docs site itself.
What hypotheses and/or assumptions do you have?
From previous interviews, we think that some of the most common docs users are: pipeline devs consulting the CI yaml file, and administrators setting up, configuring, and/or troubleshooting issues with their instance. We think that experienced users, knowing what they are looking for, are reasonably satisfied with the docs. We expect that new users are less satisfied, and may struggle to navigate and find what they need.
What questions are you trying to answer?
- When in the buyer's journey are people visiting the docs? What are they looking for?
- How satisfied are users generally with the usability of the docs site? Is there a difference in how new vs. experienced users feel about it?
- How frequently are users consulting the docs?
- What other context do users have? What other resources do they rely on to learn about GitLab?
Core questions
What % of users are visiting the docs as part of their decision-making process to buy GitLab?
What business decisions will be made based on this information?
Are the docs an appropriate place for additional marketing content/more links to about.gitlab.com pages?
