Group Overview Mockup: 2nd round of feedback
What’s this issue all about?
User feedback from #113 (closed) has been implemented into the latest round of mockups for the Group Overview page design. We would like to conduct another round of research on these updated designs, focusing especially on the epics section (which received mixed feedback in the first round). There are two versions of the designs: one with the epics section and one without.
Aim of the Research
- Get user feedback on the Group Page overview 'vision' mockup.
- Compare feedback on first and second version of mockups.
Methodology
User interviews with 5 GitLab users. Show both mockups to all participants but in a different order. 3 participants will see the mockup without Epics first and 2 participants will see the mockup with epics first.
Key Findings
-
All five users preferred the design with Epics, regardless of the order in which they viewed mockups. These users were not currently using Epics but either had interest in using them in the future or saw the value of the information presented. They think the Epics section gives a nice high-level overview of what the group is working on.
-
3 users commented on the fact that there’s an option to create a new project directly from the group overview page but no button for new sub-groups.
-
3 users did not immediately recognize that the folder and bookmark items were representing subgroups and projects. They were able to understand it after clicking around, but the bookmark icon was especially ambiguous.
-
3 users showed interest in seeing pipeline health reflected in the group overview somehow.
-
3 users expressed concern that they may not know if the Epics section will “permanently” disappear if they choose to hide it. They would appreciate some text that clarifies whether they’ll need to turn Epics back on in settings.
-
User 3 would prefer a "dashboard" view (7 day overview and Epics) to be separate from the list view (subgroups and projects section).
-
User 4 brought up the concern that there are some people who may want to go straight to the list of subgroups and projects but may not be able to find it as quickly due to the information above it.
