Left Sidebar IA: Card-sort + Content Audit
Problem to solve
Every quarter in the System Usability Scale survey (&3848 (closed)), we receive feedback from users who find it difficult to navigate throughout GitLab. Many users are dealing with this problem by bookmarking pages in their browsers, opening lots of tabs, or using To Dos to save links they need.
Goals and objectives
The goal of this issue is to conduct an analysis of the content in the left sidebar and investigate how users conceptualize the content.
Research Questions
- How do users categorize information about GitLab's features?
- How do we currently structure and label the content in the left sidebar? Does this align with IA/UX best practices?
Progress
-
Analyze existing user feedback regarding navigation -
Analyze how users conceptualize GitLab's product offerings -
Collect ~30-50 unmoderated open card-sorts from external users
-
-
Create a content inventory of GitLab -
Map the common tasks of our userbase - JTBD, user stories, personas
-
-
Compare findings from IA research with the existing content inventory
