Should we use Extension Tags in Dovetail?
Dovetail's Extension Tags feature holds a lot of promise for managing data across research projects. Some of us researchers are therefore getting asked on whether we recommend using them, and if so, in what way.
The two motivations I'm hearing from UXers on Secure for using Extension Tags are:
- Extension tags would allow us to curate all data around a certain point of interest, across all studies. Interested in getting all findings on our DAST feature from all studies (and customer calls documented in Dovetail)? No problem, just click on the DAST extension tag.
- Using extension tags could potentially reduce the time analysis takes. Having extension tags for guidance means that all that's left is adding (project-level) tags that are highly specific to your study.
In a recent UXR Weekly meeting it became clear that (most?) researchers are hesitant about recommending using Extension tags, and the discussion ended without reaching a final decision on this. This issue is a place to continue this discussion a-synchronously.
