Add test to check running against gitlab.com

In %15.7 we've had a regression regarding the base_url provider argument, see #1367 (closed)

I suggest that we add a basic test to test against GitLab.com.

The question would be how to authorize to it. There are probably a few low-risk options like a read-only PAT from a dummy user.
