Q3FY2022 KR: Balance tech writer workload by improving the planning and estimation process for feature docs
Part of the FY22-Q3 UX Department OKRs.
Better understand the milestone planning and basic estimation process for technical writing work so that we can:
- improve the way we balance group assignments and workloads across the team
- without aiming for perfect predictability, we need to become less reactive and more proactive around feature documentation so we can improve the quality of the documentation
This OKR also includes updates to the handbook about managing cross-group and -stage priorities.
-
KR1: Gather team feedback. Conduct interviews with technical writers regarding their current process for preparing for each release. -
KR2: Research with group and stage PMs or EMs regarding their current methods for communicating documentation requirements for features, and their expectations. -
KR3: Expand weights experiment to 50% team member volunteers for one quarter, incorporating weights into both issue planning and MR reporting. -
KR4: Review and update the current TW workflow to identify how to better support TWs in capacity planning, knowing that groups can have their own special processes for working with the TW group.
