To-Do List; to-do item; list of to dos
We need to clarify the correct usage of hyphenation and capitalization around to dos.
The hyphenation in the UI and the Design Mgmt doc isn't consistent with the usage elsewhere in the product.
Here's the correct usage for to dos, following standard grammatical rules and the MS Style Guide.
Capitalization and Hyphenation | Description |
---|---|
To-Do List | compound adjective modifying "List," the feature itself in the UI, following feature capitalization rules |
to-do item | compound adjective modifying "item," the thing in the list |
to-do items | compound adjective modifying "items," which is plural - and better than "to dos" |
to do | noun, as in "I have a to do" |
to dos | noun, plural; awkward. Use "to do items" |
Let's add this to the Style Guide, fix the doc in the Design Mgmt section, and ask @mnearents to fix the UI.
