Proposal: If incident is automatically closed by bot, skip the Slack notification
Background
We now have @gitlab-bot automatically triaging master broken incidents for us and close the ones caused by transient errors. With this automation in place, a good chunk of incidents no longer require human intervention.
Proposal
Skip the Slack notifications for these automatically closed incidents, to reduce noise in the #master-broken channel.
Benefit
This will enable us to reserve space in the channel for the incidents that actually requires action, and reduce noise / interruption for the team.
Concern
Skipping the Slack notification doesn't mean we can stop looking at them all together. It is still important for us to stay in the loop of all broken master incidents, to detect trends and patterns. But perhaps the communication can be done in a different way, such as a scheduled report, instead of being alerted as soon as they happen, as the urgency for these known transient errors are much lower.
I'd like to hear what you think, thanks @gl-quality/eng-prod
