Gitlab CE discontinued from Google Cloud Launcher

Today I got a notice that Gitlab CE is no longer being offered on Google Cloud Launcher and that all instances launched with this will be deleted after the date. Is this real? If so what is the reason for this?

Also is this just for instances launched via the Cloud Launcher? Could I create a standard vm and install Gitlab CE myself and avoid this issue?

Any information that can be provided would be helpful.
