Do not use real looking paths in gitlab.rb.template
Description
We're hosting a GitLab instance with GitLFS on Microsoft Azure. By default, GitLFS files are stored in /mnt/storage/lfs-objects
. We did not bother to change the default configuration. However, the /mnt
directory on Azure Linux VMs is temporary and will be cleared on maintenance events. This leads to data loss of all LFS objects.
Proposal
I am not sure whether /mnt
is a good place to store LFS objects to begin with, so this default directory could be changed. For azure VMs, there is file called /mnt/DATALOSS_WARNING_README.txt
- maybe at least a warning during install if this file is present might help.
