Prometheus Training for the Group
Objective
GitLab is all-in on Prometheus as the monitoring tool of choice when it comes to our monitor solution. Both APM and Health groups depend on Prometheus to send/receive data to meet our monitoring product needs. Team members who have significant experience with Prometheus (Eg. more adept at PromQL) tend to be able to outperform team members who do not have that knowledge.
By setting up Prometheus training (4-5 hours worth of content) for team members who are interested, we can position our team to create features related to Prometheus at a faster rate than before.
Expected Outcomes
- Team members to become more knowledgable at Prometheus.
- Understanding and discussing more edge cases as we build out our monitor features
- Optimize how we write better integrations with Prometheus
- Equipped to better answer questions about Prometheus from other teams
- Reduce the frequency of asking Ben and/or Infrastructure team for help with Prometheus related questions
