Weekly MLOps Demo - August 20th 2021
All Weekly Demos: #16
Recording
Jupyter Notebook experience
Jupyter Notebooks are key to ML Engineers and Data Scientists workflows, and we know the experience we provide on Gitlab for this file type is not on par to user expectations. We dedicated this week to understand better what needs to be improved, organising issues and exploring examples, and we are now on our way to start actually solving some of them.
Understanding the current state of Jupyter Notebooks
We did a thorough investigation on how notebooks diffs are rendered in multiple tools, and shared the results here: #12 (closed)
To carry out the investigation, we created a repo that samples different ways notebooks can be changed: https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/incubation-engineering/mlops/ipynb-mr-sample
Action Points
We promoted a 3 year old issue to the epic gitlab-org&6589 (closed), adding a list of MVCs that need to happen for us to achieve the goal of having Jupyter Notebooks Code Reviews on GitLab. This will help us find the right colleagues and expertise necessary to get this done.
Exploring Vendors
Another key point we are exploring is how to contextualise GitLab within the MLOps landscape, which vendors could we make partnerships, what architectural components we could be investing in, and where could we deliver more value quicker to our customers.
We are writing down our findings on a internal document for now.
Up Next
The next week we will dive deep into gitlab-org&6589 (closed)
