Setup a Growth Weekly async check-in
Context
Once we moved to a more continuous way of working and stopped leveraging monthly planning issue, we will need some way for the team to do a catch-up on things - impediments, progress, successes and direction. This has normally been performed monthly during the Milestone Planning, but this period was too long and it often missed the crucial problems (they expired or we forgot about them) as well as was not very efficient if we needed to change direction. The idea is to start Growth Weekly Check-in, which will be async check-in performed via issue - similar to planning or retrospective issue but created on weekly basis and covering more areas.
Expectations
- Is async and happens weekly
- Covers following topics:
- Completed work (issue list) + a way to celebrate these accomplishments
- Impediments & blockers
- Direction / planning for next week (section for PMs to give team some context on upcoming work, especially if the work in the "ready for dev" column was recently rearranged and there are new priorities)
- What we could improve? (sort of retrospective section where we can discuss process improvements in a more regular way than our monthly retrospectives - sometimes things need to be discussed close to moment they appeared rather than month later)
-
💡 Maybe also check-in on open refinement issues to see if they were completed (solves time-boxing problem of our refinement improvement)
- Partially automated (create issue, label it, fill completed issues) - this is a stretch goal, and in the first weeks it could be done manually to not invest time in writing automated script yet (consider manual version as MVC)
- Use visual cues and emojis to make the issue a bit more appealing and easier to read than a raw wall of text
Additionally, this async issue is supported by bi-weekly Growth Team Meeting where we can discuss topics that are better solved in a sync way.
Outcomes
Merged MR that describes the process for Growth Team Check-in in Growth's handbook page.
