Experiment displaying locked features in left side navigation
Problem
When a free user utilizes a group they do not see the following navigation items Service Desk
, Security & Compliance
, Packages
, epics
. This can make it challenging for the user to understand that we offer these features unless they go ahead and either read about them on their own, speak with someone at GitLab, start a trial or upgrade.
Proposed experiment
We display these navigation items to a percentage of net new free users. If they select one of these features then we will display a paywall where we speak to the value of the feature and offer them the ability to upgrade or start a trial. We would then track the rate at which users view these lock states and go on to take an action (i.e. upgrade or start a trial) compared to the control version.
This will benefit the user as they will more quickly be able to understand the power of the GitLab platform and it will benefit GitLab as it will increase the exposure to the features within our paid products.
