[UX] What's New - UI Interface
Overview
As part of our work for #279 (closed), this is the design issue for the admin interface.
Proposed spec
Create an interaction in the GitLab UI that will do the following:
- Show an indicator when something new is available (similar to the numbers we have on issues/MRs). Ideally this shows the # of new entries and will clear when a user views them.
- When viewed, will list out the following information that has been entered in the admin interface:
- A headline
- A body
- An image
- Badging to designate the tier
- Badging to designate the release
- A CTA
- When clicked on, the CTA will bring the user to a URL defined in the admin section

Drawer component
Self-Managed | SaaS |
---|---|
![]() The drawer component will be slightly different for Self-Managed users. We introduce the ability to filter via version. A user's current version would be shown as default and past version updates would be loaded in the current version tab below the most recent updates. In the use case where there either aren't any new versions to pull, or we are unable to due to admin preference this would then default to the SaaS view (we hide the tabs). |
![]() For SaaS users we do not share the concept of versions but display updates in a similar way to the Self-Managed approach using the same pricing badge matrix. |
