GitHub issue decoration (linkification) for ambiguous issue leads to unrelated results
Hi
we're using Gitter for discussions tightly related to a GitHub repo called SuiteCRM.
Twice I've been fooled by someone typing a Github issue name, like they do on Github, like #8005
. And Gitter is smart and linkifies it, just like GitHub.
Well... not like GitHub. Gitter doesn't know which repo we're talking about, and so creates this link:
https://github.com/issues?q=8005+involves:pgorod
Which is basically searching the whole GitHub for my username and that issue number. Now, it turns out GitHub is pretty damn awful returning values for that. It showed me a single Issue, I clicked on it mindlessly, wasn't the correct one, and I ended up giving a wrong answer to what I was being asked.
Two alternatives:
-
run away from this mess, stop linkifying in a way that gives ambiguous results.
-
add a really cool feature. Let me configure an option in the
Room settings
, or in the GitHub integration settings, saying which GitHub repo we're talking about. This could then be used to linkify more correctly.
Thanks in advance!
