Backspace / Alt-Left does not work for back navigation
Created by: iki
- Open Gitter
- Switch channels
- Click outside the new message textarea to move focus out of it
- Try Backspace or Alt-Left to navigate back in history (like in Slack app) Expected result: app navigates back in history Current result: nothing happens
Also, in step 3, is there some way to move the focus usinf keyboard?

Hey Jan,
Feel free to open an issue. Others might be able to add some details on how to reproduce it.
In the meantime, you could make a custom build of the desktop app and add the following button code or your own key event listeners to trigger the history methods.
<button onclick="window.history.back()">Go Back</button>
<button onclick="window.history.forward()">Go Forward</button>
Regards,
Eric

I am on Windows 8.1 x64. I don't have to do anything special, it just works. Just make sure you are not focused in a input/textarea.

Eric

Hey Eric,
it's Gitter 2.3.2 on Windows 8 x64, backspace does not go back in history for me (nor alt-left). I also tried to click somewhere outside the chat message box to move focus out of it and prevent it swallowing the backspace, but even after it didn't backspace do anything for me. Can you pls describe exact steps how backspace works for you, so I can try them?
Regards,
Jan

Hey Jan,
What platform are you on?
Pressing Backspace makes the window go backwards for me with the Windows desktop app.

Eric

Rationale: I want to add new channels, go to account menu, Home, Explore, enter filter keyword, select channel. Now I want to add second one and need to repeat all steps, because Back does not work, like in browser, or like in the Slack app for the matter.
