Option to control roles and permission for newly created projects not available
I am missing an option for self-hosted Gitlab instances to tune the roles for newly created projects. Currently, the roles for new projects seem to be derived from the roles of the subfolder the project is created in. However, for hosted instances for smaller user groups, this does not seem to be practical. In order to minimize maintenance effort for admins, we hoped we could build the following structure:
- For the subfolders, at a certain level, we would like for everyone to be able to create new subfolders as needed. This would require at least maintainer access.
- For new projects created therein, it would be most practical to have the following role distribution:
- Make the project creator its owner so they can give individual permissions on each project
- Make everyone else a developer initially, so they are not able to mess up protected branches. The owner can then decide whom to give further access to.
Is that in any way possible in gitlab as of now?
