Display user status message in Assignee field
Update: Closed as Won't Fix. However, this was previously partially addressed by adding (Busy) to a person's profile. The full status becomes available if you assign the person and then hover over their name.
Problem to solve
With 11.2 we introduce user status messages, shown on the profile page, in comments and author bards. Besides showing the status when @mentioning a user, the status is currently not displayed in the Assignee field on issues/epics/MRs.
Since showing your availability is a relevant use case, users should see the information when assigning "work" to a user who might be unavailable.
Proposal
Show the status message in the user dropdown in the assignee field.
What does success look like, and how can we measure that?
When assigning an issue, epic or MR to a user, you see the user status message if defined.
