Trademark and Copyright symbols converted to smiley

Summary

When using the Trademark™ symbol in a wiki article, issue, etc. on Gitlab, it gets converted to a "Smiley". which looks really out of place.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a new wiki page.
  2. Use the trademark symbol ™ in the text.
  3. Save the page and view it.

What is the current bug behavior?

The trademark symbol displays as smiley, like in this™ example or as can be seen in the screenshot below:

What is the expected correct behavior?

It should display as the actual ™ character.

Version

This is reproducible on 8.16.6, probably in the most recent version (9.0) too, as it displays as smiley here too.
