Translate documentation to other languages
In gitlab-ce#4012 a discussion has been revolving around the technical side and implementation details of translating the code base of GitLab, but lacks discussion on translating the documentation which might be much lower hanging fruit to drive sales and adoption. To quote @malessio on its importance:
In general, the docs are always considered more important by customers than the UI; in particular Admin docs. But adoption of CE (which may be more important) will rise if the UI is localised. I would say that if our goal is to increase adoption, then localised UI is important. If it is to improve revenues, then doc is important
To me this seems like a great way to get started without the enormous work that gitlab-ce#4012 would yield and also; the community could help enormously here. :)
Couple of question I got, right now;
- Where are we going to store the translations? In the CE/EE repo under
doc/en/
anddoc/nl
? Or should a new project be created? - How are we going to include these translations in the user installed /help pages
- Is there a minimal percentage which needs to be translated before we can/should include it?
