## Summary
The Vue 3 migration rolls pages out behind per-family feature flags declared in `vue3_migration.yml` files next to page entrypoints. Several flags put the same Vue component tree behind separate switches. Two flags over one code path double the rollout work without adding coverage. A problem found under one flag requires the other flipped too.
A new `--overlap` view in `scripts/frontend/vue3_migration_stats.mjs` (merge request https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/merge_requests/255835) reports this. On master today it lists nine pairs above its limits. This issue names the five largest and proposes how to merge them.
## How this was measured
- Per flag, the union of `.vue` components reached from its page entrypoints through the import graph (dependency-cruiser).
- Excluded: the shared layer from `config/frontend_packages.mjs`, and 118 baseline components reached by 8 or more flags (the Markdown render path: GLQL, content editor, issuable popovers).
- Overlap coefficient = shared / smaller set. 1.00 means the smaller flag is entirely inside the larger one. Jaccard = shared / union.
- Limits used: overlap coefficient at or above 0.75 and at least 20 shared components.
## The five largest overlaps
| Flag A | Flag B | Shared | Size A | Size B | Overlap | Jaccard |
|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|---------|---------|
| `vue3_migrate_boards` | `vue3_migrate_work_items` | 197 | 251 | 418 | 0.79 | 0.42 |
| `vue3_migrate_pipeline_security_tab` | `vue3_migrate_pipelines` | 151 | 151 | 379 | 1.00 | 0.40 |
| `vue3_migrate_ai_catalog` | `vue3_migrate_duo_agents_platform` | 64 | 70 | 108 | 0.91 | 0.56 |
| `vue3_migrate_cluster_agents` | `vue3_migrate_vulnerability_report` | 52 | 92 | 65 | 0.80 | 0.49 |
| `vue3_migrate_admin_duo_show` | `vue3_migrate_group_duo_show` | 36 | 36 | 36 | 1.00 | 1.00 |
1. `vue3_migrate_boards` and `vue3_migrate_work_items`
- Boards pages: `app/assets/javascripts/pages/groups/boards/index.js`, `app/assets/javascripts/pages/projects/boards/index.js`, `ee/app/assets/javascripts/pages/groups/epic_boards/index.js`
- Work items pages: 8 entrypoints, including `app/assets/javascripts/pages/projects/issues/show/index.js`, `app/assets/javascripts/pages/projects/work_items/index.js`, `app/assets/javascripts/pages/groups/work_items/index.js`
- Boards render work item cards and the work item drawer, which is most of the work items tree.
2. `vue3_migrate_pipeline_security_tab` and `vue3_migrate_pipelines`
- Security tab page: `ee/app/assets/javascripts/pages/projects/pipelines/security/index.js`
- Pipelines pages: 17 entrypoints under `pages/projects/pipelines/`, `pipeline_schedules/`, `ci/`, plus EE `merge_trains/`
- The security tab is one tab of the pipeline show page and reaches nothing the pipelines flag does not already cover.
3. `vue3_migrate_ai_catalog` and `vue3_migrate_duo_agents_platform`
- AI catalog page: `ee/app/assets/javascripts/pages/explore/ai_catalog/index.js`
- Duo agents platform pages: `ee/app/assets/javascripts/pages/groups/duo_agents_platform/index.js`, `ee/app/assets/javascripts/pages/projects/duo_agents_platform/index.js`
- Both mount the AI catalog components.
4. `vue3_migrate_cluster_agents` and `vue3_migrate_vulnerability_report`
- Cluster agents pages: `app/assets/javascripts/pages/clusters/agents/dashboard/index.js`, `app/assets/javascripts/pages/projects/cluster_agents/show/index.js`
- Vulnerability report pages: `ee/app/assets/javascripts/pages/groups/security/vulnerabilities/index/index.js`, `ee/app/assets/javascripts/pages/projects/security/vulnerability_report/index.js`, `ee/app/assets/javascripts/pages/security/vulnerabilities/index/index.js`
- The same 52 components are also shared with `vue3_migrate_pipelines` and `vue3_migrate_pipeline_security_tab`, so this is one cluster of four flags. The vulnerability report table is embedded in the cluster agent page and the pipeline security tab.
5. `vue3_migrate_admin_duo_show` and `vue3_migrate_group_duo_show`
- `ee/app/assets/javascripts/pages/admin/gitlab_duo/show/index.js` and `ee/app/assets/javascripts/pages/groups/settings/gitlab_duo/show/index.js`
- Identical component sets.
- Related: `vue3_migrate_admin_duo_configuration` and `vue3_migrate_group_duo_configuration` share 26 of 32 components (overlap 0.81), and `vue3_migrate_group_duo_configuration` sits entirely inside `vue3_migrate_group` (32 of 32).
## Proposal
- For each pair, pick one flag and point the other flag's `vue3_migration.yml` files at it, then remove the flag definition no longer referenced. The `spec/lib/gitlab/vue3_migration_files_spec.rb` spec keeps CE and EE YAML files consistent.
- Where one flag is already further along in its rollout on GitLab.com, keep that one.
Suggested merges:
- Merge `vue3_migrate_pipeline_security_tab` into `vue3_migrate_pipelines`.
- Merge `vue3_migrate_ai_catalog` into `vue3_migrate_duo_agents_platform`.
- Merge the two Duo show flags into one, and the two Duo configuration flags into one.
- Merge `vue3_migrate_boards` and `vue3_migrate_work_items` into one flag, or at minimum roll them out together.
- `vue3_migrate_cluster_agents` and `vue3_migrate_vulnerability_report`: to be decided by the owning groups, since the shared piece is one embedded table.
Going forward: before adding a new `vue3_migrate_*` flag, run `node scripts/frontend/vue3_migration_stats.mjs --overlap` and reuse an existing flag when the new pages share their tree with it. The dashboard at https://vue3-migration-dashboard-0afc95.gitlab.io/ will show a "Flag Overlap" tab once https://gitlab.com/ntepluhina/vue3-migration-dashboard/-/merge_requests/3 merges.
