Email notifications for impending GitLab.com user charges

Problem to solve

Before we start auto-billing for GitLab.com user charges, we should inform users of any charges before they happen.

Proposal

  • If a GitLab.com group's active members ever exceed the members paid for in their plan, send them an email that they'll incur additional charges.
    • Send an email notification to the user once for the month, informing them that they'll be charged for overage and to watch /billing/ for more information.

Emails should be reflected in SFDC.

What does success look like, and how can we measure that?

  • Email notifications are going out ahead of time to applicable groups. We're giving users at LEAST 24 hours of notice before they're charged.
