Increase size of label picking / label creation in MR creation

Problem to solve

One can assign labels to MR when creating. And gitlab allows to create a new label, should an appropriate one not exist. Yet the dialog is a frustrating experience on "large" screens, as the drop down menu is laughably small and one can only see like 4 labels at a time and we have 24 in our project. 4 is so small one cannot even quickly scroll over them, as the discrete scroll steps of a mouse wheel make it hard to follow the labels coming in and going out (one goes through the entire visible part of the menu with just two click).

Furthermore, when creating a new label, the dialog to do so, is not very big either, but still the text box for the name of the new label and the create button are not visible at the same time (screenshot attached).up

Further details

This is on a 2560x1440 screen, but I also encountered the problem on 1366x768, 1024x768, 1920x1200.

We're running Gitlab 11.0.5-ee d139d224

Proposal

In the attached example, making the menu thrice as tall would hardly hurt and make a more pleasant experience.

What does success look like, and how can we measure that?

Users don't growl frustrated at the screen when going through the steps of MR creation.

Or in other words:

  • more than four labels visible in the label picker at the same time (should the screen size allow)
  • no scrolling at all in the label creation.
