Description

We're currently working on making the Contribution Analytics graphs readable even when there are many contributors (#6089 (closed)). In our documentation for Contribution Analytics we state the following use cases:

  • Analyze your team's contributions along a period of time and offer a bonus for the top contributors
  • If you are unhappy with a particular team member, you can use the analytics as argument for demanding efficiency from this person

With the addition of issue weights we can now paint an even clearer picture of the amount of work that was contributed by each member of the group.

At the moment, closing many small issues may distort the information of who's being more productive. Closing 8 small issues with a weight of 2 is not the same as closing 4 issues with a weight 5 (all issues same weight for simpler example). At the moment we do the following:

Position User Issues closed
1. 1 8
2. 2 4

Proposal

Offer a way to display and sort contributors by the sum of the weights of issues they closed. Proposed:

Position User Issues closed Issue weight Sum
1. 2 4 5 20
2. 1 8 2 16

The UI could be something like this:

Concerns

I'm not sure how useful this would be to a group that doesn't consistently use issue weights.
