Missing page redirects to sign up

When attempting to view a missing page, gitlab redirects to a sign up page, without telling the user that the page is missing. Please do not do this it wastes user resources as well as gitlab resources. I have spent roughly 10 minutes signing up, to view a page which does not exist. Very user hostile design.
