User options flow when group will transfer to organization
Description
When a group is transferred to an organization, users whose account is not owned by the group must be presented with explicit options for how their account will be handled during the transfer. This issue focuses on designing the user experience flow that allows users to make informed decisions about their account's future relationship with the organization.
Problem Statement
During group-to-organization transfers, users must be given a choice about what happens with their account, unless the user is an enterprise user owned by the group. Without clear options and guidance, users may:
- Lose access to personal projects or data unexpectedly
- Have their accounts transferred without explicit consent
- Be unclear about the implications of different choices
- Lack visibility into what data/projects will be affected by each option
Scope
Design the user decision flow that presents enterprise users with clear options when group ownership transfers to an organization:
Core User Options to Consider/Design:
-
Opt-in (Full Transfer)
- User account becomes fully managed by the organization
- All associated projects, data, and permissions transfer
-
Opt-out (Maintain Independence)
- User account remains independent/personal
- Loses access to organization-managed resources
- Retains personal projects and data
-
Split Account (maybe?)
- Provide a secondary, personal email address to assign personal groups and projects to
- Existing user and data within the group that's transferring are transferred to the new organization
- The challenge with this case will be satisfying both the end user and the group owner/company. Content ownership may be disputed.
