Duo Agentic Chat - Agent messages disappearing and reappearing

Problem

GitLab Duo Chat UI is experiencing consistent flickering where messages disappear and reappear every second during execution. This affects both Flows and Agentic chat in IDE and web.

Symptoms

• Activity log/messages flicker (show for 1 second, clear, repeat)
• Occurs in every session
• Affects both IDE and web interfaces
• Primarily (maybe even only) impacts agent-type messages (not tools). Possibly related to streaming.

Workaround

Messages always eventually appear, but the flickering is extremely distracting.

Impact

• Poor user experience during chat interactions
