Docs feedback: When does this miracle clean up feature run?

Problem to solve
Its great that you've added a feature to help manage the out of control backlog of unmanaged pipeline builds; especially since the Delete function doesn't work reliably.
I've set up the auto clean up feature for a project with more than 188 pages of very old pipelines. I waited and nothing happened. I ran a pipeline, the pipeline list was not cleaned up. I can find no way to trigger this "feature" and actually get it to work for our needs.
We are using GitLab Enterprise Edition v17.11.6-ee I'm referencing the Automatic pipeline cleanup documentation The document doesn't say what triggers the clean up, or when we can expect it to run.
Further details
It would be great if you gave a bit more information to Admins as we are left floundering to explain to our management why the settings are not being honored by GitLab. Information like how to trigger the clean up or what has to happen in the project to get the clean up to run would be a prime example of this kind of information. Does this run in the middle of the night, once an hour, once a week, after every successful build, after any build, every full moon when there's a cool westerly breeze blowing off the mountains in northern Italy? What makes this actually work?
Proposal
Add information on what triggers this feature and how often it will run to the documentation.
Who can address the issue
