Docs: Update environments documentation to reflect current UI layout

  • Start this issue's title with Docs: or Docs feedback:.

Problem to solve

The environments documentation at https://docs.gitlab.com/ci/environments/ contains screenshots and UI descriptions that no longer match the current GitLab interface. Users following the documentation see a significantly different layout when they navigate to their actual environments page, which creates confusion and makes it difficult to follow the documented workflows. The affected documentation section covers the main environments overview and navigation, but the visual references and UI element descriptions are outdated compared to the current GitLab interface.

Further details

This documentation update would benefit all GitLab users who work with environments, particularly developers and DevOps engineers who need to deploy and manage their applications. The current mismatch between documentation and reality creates friction in the user experience and may lead to support requests or user confusion.

Proposal

Update the environments documentation page with current screenshots that accurately reflect the modern GitLab UI. Revise accompanying text to match current navigation paths, button labels, and layout descriptions. This includes updating any references to UI elements that have been moved, renamed, or redesigned since the documentation was last updated.

Who can address the issue

This issue requires collaboration between the technical writing team for content updates and the environments team to update screenshots and verify current UI elements in the GitLab interface.
