Confidence in Searching GitLab is Low

Summary

Perform a search in a project. For example, I'm looking for all Merge Requests related to qa.

The counter shows one result merged. GREAT! Now where's that result?

It's in a private project. But the behavior that I'd like to address remains the same.

What is the current bug behavior?

GitLab clearly performed a search. The counters for each of the tabs of Open, Merged, Closed, and All, were updated to reflect some sort of count. Yet when I'm on a tab that has a value greater than 0, it tells me there are no results.

What is the expected correct behavior?

  • If there is a counter that tells me there's an actual result, show me the result, don't tell me there's nothing, but you've found something at the same time. You've now decreased my confidence that searching is accurate
  • If there's a character limit on searching, tell me. I did indeed search on two whopping characters, which is usually disallowed. But you did not tell me that and you've updated the page. I either performed a search, or did not, but from the response I get, it would appear yes and no at the same time.
