DRAFT: Consumption-based pricing for Model Registry for .com and Dedicated customers

Proposal

Provide consumption-based pricing for the Model Registry on .com and Dedicated customers.

There is currently a 5GB limit on model sizes for the GitLab Model Registry. This is too small for many models, especially within the LLM space. Instead we should take a consumption-based approach:

• Remove limits and improve capacity so customers to upload any model size, but charge them for Object Storage and traffic costs, a premium over backend cloud costs.
  • This may require the on-demand creation of customer-specific object storage buckets, managed by GitLab
• Develop a pricing strategy
• Connect Fulfillment with the Model Registry so customers are appropriately charged
• Resolve the infrastructure strategy
• Remove all restrictions for self-managed customers as they are in control of their own system resources
  • Potentially add a dashboard to manage the storage
