How to validate gitlab-ci yaml syntax with !reference?

Currently check-jsonschema is having a hard time validating Gitlab pipeline definitions with !reference in them.

I've raised a ticket here to tackle the issue.

I just would like to ask for input on it on how to handle !reference during schema validation.
