New epic work items always creates a color change system note

How to reproduce:

  1. Go to https://gitlab.com/groups/gitlab-org/plan-stage/
  2. Create an epic work item - just edit the title
  3. Go to the work item view of the epic
  4. There is a "Set color to ..." system note, although no new color got set
