REST API: Create a sub/child task within an existing issue via API

Hi Team, SIRT is testing an automation where we are trying to create sub/child tasks under an issues using the API. We are able to successfully create standalone tasks (using issue_type=task) and then attempt to link them to an issue. However, they are added as related issues rather than as tasks or child items. Is there a way to create tasks as child items of issues via the API, or to add the new tasks as child items under a specified issue? Requesting this feature request.
