Discussion: Popover hints
Background
I came across a popover I hadn't seen before added in 80d1f00c. A few things stood out to me as things I don't typically see:
- Use of emojis. We don't often use emojis so I was surprised to see
✨ . It's somewhat become the defacto AI emoji so it felt disconnected to me. - Confirmation text
Got it
. I'm curious what tech writing thinks of this. It feels likeDismiss
might be more formal but more clear. - Background tint of blue. I think this captures the spirit of something informational, but I'm curious why the coloring is necessary.
- typebug because of how boards' page loads the popover didn't actually point to the + New list button until I refreshed the page.
I've been trying to understand where these popovers originated. The oldest one I could find in the product looks like it was here gitlab-foss!29473 (merged)
What should we do next?
- We've somewhat organically started using popover to indicator to users that something is new or has changed, but there's nothing I can find in Pajamas which suggests to do that. Should we add guidelines?
- Are these popovers really necessary? Can we remove them.
- Should we just fix the placement bug?
