Opportunity

Text editors are used in various places within GitLab and offer opportunities for AI assistance. We offer a number of specific functions today, such as description generation, which require one sort of pattern. These field level actions relate to a single field and typically focus on filling in the data for that field, potentially overwriting any existing value.

While we don't currently offer generic AI support for text, these capabilities should be expected and may require different patterns. These editor actions could include things like open-ended prompts (write a blurb about... build a diagram... etc) or text modification, like summarization or translation.

This issue explores both patterns and the potential divergence/convergence of the two different types of actions.
