Problem to Solve

It’s impossible to get back to useful or routinely accessed views in GitLab without using external methods like browser bookmarks or searching my browser history. We lack even basic functionality for this use case, and competitors such as Jira and GitHub provide a rich experience in this problem space.

Proposal

Create the ability for users such as project or product managers and dev team leads or engineering managers to create and save critical search result views in advanced search. For example, a list of all open bugs assigned to them in a group, or a list of open all MRs that contain a specific string. In the future, we'll be able to leverage semantic search to create saved views of topical areas, not just from keyword matches and filters.

MVC

The MVC should have the following attributes:

• The ability to run a search and save it in GitLab
• The ability to see and quickly return to saved searches
• The ability to delete a saved search
• The ability to modify a saved search
• Can create saved searches for issues and MRs

Existing Research

• Many participants referenced the common need to reuse previous searches, and wished there was the ability to save these or view a history of searches
• The majority of participants primarily utilize search to locate/recall items they know existed or had interacted with recently
