Add visual indicator to show when whitespace hidden mode is on

When whitespace is hidden, the diff line numbers can be incorrect, e.g:

This can be confusing to the user, at the same time these numbers are correct. Perhaps we could add a visual indicator such as an icon to indicate when a user is hiding whitespace?
