How to search
Searches are performed in the Gitlab.org or Gitlab.com group will use Zoekt.
The main benefit of using Zoekt for code search is that it supports exact substring matching and regular expressions. For example you could search all projects under /gitlab-com for all mentions of "iteration" or "iterate" with this nifty regexp.
How to get back the previous experience (Elasticsearch)
Zoekt does have some slight differences to Elasticsearch in search syntax so in case you happen to run into issues and can't resolve them by asking us then you are also able to disable the new search experience under your user profile Preferences.
