Compact Geo dashboard layout
Release notes
Problem to solve
The Geo dashboard lists all components and their replication/verification status for each site. We have added a lot of new components recently and the Dashboard has become quite crowded.
Looking across sites requires a lot of scrolling up and down. It's easy for a user to lose their point of reference (i.e. which site's details they are looking at) because the list of components is long and fills up the screen.
Further, the fact that the page is much longer now means it is difficult for the system admin to view the status of their sites at a glance. They need to scroll to each site in turn.
Proposal
Move to a more compact representation of replication and verification status on the dashboard.
One option is to only show the replication summary for each site. System admins can expand by data type to look at the list of components under each data type.
This would allow several sites to be visible on a single screen without the need to scroll. The summary would provide a high-level overview of the status of each site and we would facilitate drilling down to components as necessary.
UX Notes
There is an initiative going on in the UX department, "Unboxing the UI"
- Reduce the visual noise and wasted space
- Increase the readability of the contents
- Example MR: Modal component
- Check the details on Video
