Display of fields in Protected Tags admin UI page
Summary
On the Protected Tags admin UI page, two dropdown lists ('Tag' and 'Allowed to create') are horizontally truncated so short that the meaning is lost. Strangely, the only way to read them is to reduce the size of your viewport down, and the list boxes are displayed larger (yes really) in a way that lets you read the text.
Steps to reproduce
- On the top bar, select Main menu > Projects and find your project.
- On the left sidebar, select Settings > Repository.
- Expand Protected tags.
- Examine the 'Tag' and 'Allowed to create' lists. Even at full desktop screen width, the phrases they contain can't be fully read. No tooltip provides assistance, and the helptext is either missing or insufficient. The user can't read the full text in either field, and the helptext isn't enough:
Example Project
It should be visible on GitLab.com and in GDK. It's likely been this way a long time.
What is the current bug behavior?
Information in these fields is truncated when viewing at full width, but is visible when using a smaller viewport.
What is the expected correct behavior?
Informational text should either be added as helptext, or the field width should be wider, so the user can read the info about the field.
Relevant screenshots
The 'tag' field, expanded
At full width, the user still can't see the entire text:But drop the viewport size, and you can!
The 'Allowed to create' field, expanded
When collapsed at full viewport size, you can't read the full text. When you expand (in either viewport) you can see the full text. It's `Developers + Maintainers`:Smaller viewport size gives a better experience, though:
Output of checks
I would expect this happens on GitLab.com too.
Possible fixes
I'll leave that up to a FE or UX person.
