Release notes
Problem to solve
As a developer creating a Pages site my users visit, I want to understand what pages they see/things they click, so I can enhance those features/content to provide more value.
As a developer developing a pages site, I want to quickly/easily add the default Product Analytics (behavior, audience) tracking to my site, so I can get insights faster.
Proposal
- When creating a new pages site give users the option to "add analytics"
- Generate the needed ID for the site and update the html for the template with the HTML snippet to record page events without users having to change code.
- Add to the ReadMe a link to the analytics dashboard for increased discoverability.
Intended users
- Sasha (Software Developer) - who wants to get some simple analytics on deployments to GitLab pages without a heavy lift so they can track usage/add value where it counts.
- Parker (Product Manager) - who wants to track users looking at an internal facing "readme" style site.
Feature Usage Metrics
- Clicks on the button - intent to add
- projects with a dashboard view - activation
- projects with a dashboard view after 14 days - retention
