Discussion: Revamp your work
Everyone can contribute. Help move this issue forward while earning points, leveling up and collecting rewards.
Problem to solve
We've been receiving feedback what that intent of Your work is unclear. The Your work context brings together all the pages that can provide the user with a global view of information relevant to them, which is non-obvious.
Additional feedback, users are unaware that they can customize where the logo will land them and are confused why the shortcut buttons (Issues, Merge requests, and To-Do List) also appear in the sidebar of Your work.
Principles
The home context of GitLab should help users get started, pick up where they left off, find what needs their attention, or catch up async.
Proposal
- Rename
Your worktoHometo align with mental models. - The URL
https://gitlab.com/dashboard/already sends users to their default selection. By bringing all the sidebar options under one page, the keeps that default landing page always at the top of theHomecontext. - Isolate
Workspacesfrom the dashboard pages since it is a unique feature not accessible normally in a project's navigation. - Separate
AssignedandReview requestsin the user's shortcuts - Allow users to set the default option based on the page, but remember where they last were. So if I look at Starred projects, that will be the page I return to the next time I click on the Tanuki.
- Add a recently visited section to the navigation to aid in finding projects, groups, or users that have been visited recently.
