Feedback issue: Organization Front Page
Context
As part of the effort to introduce cells and further increase the scalability of GitLab, we are considering introducing the concept of an organization. An organization will, in future, effectively serve as a replacement for a top-level group and it will hold, for instance, all of the groups, projects and members tied to a specific billing account. Historical details for this shift are visible in this epic, and the buildout plan is visible here.
What's this issue about?
We've put together some first thoughts for what might happen when people click on an organization in the navigation. What will they see on their screen? If we had a single page overview of that organization, what would it look like? What information would it contain?
Our very first draft looks like this:
The ask
What's shown in the mock-up is just an initial first guess at what might be displayed on an organization front page, based on what we're currently showing in the admin overview pages. The goal of showing it is less a recommendation, and more a way to start a discussion with the team around what we could / should show on the page.
With that in mind, we'd love feedback on the following:
- Is this the kind of information we’d want on an organization front page, or something else?
- Is it possible to show this kind of information (like commits, members, merge requests, storage) for an organization, or not?
- Any other thoughts about what is/isn't useful to see on an overview page.
Note that the navigation will be discussed separately, so we don't need feedback on that here. We're specifically looking at the main page itself, excluding the navigation.
There are threaded comments to get the discussion started below. We'd love feedback by April 7th, 2023, so we can continue refining ideas. Thank you, in advance, for your thoughts!
