We received a few questions about the new self-managed feature for the GitLab.com for Jira Cloud app and should improve the documentation to answer them. I'm collecting the questions here:
What’s the difference between using the marketplace Jira App and the manual install?
The advantage of the marketplace listing is an easier setup, Just install the app and configure it using the UI Limitations are that that GitLab.com is used as a proxy and it’s not possible to create branches from Jira. The limitation of the manual installation is that it requires to either us a new private marketplace listing or using Jira apps in developer mode.
Why is it necessary that GitLab.com serves as proxy?
A Jira app marketplace listing can only point to one SaaS app so the official marketplace listing has to point to GitLab.com. To make it possible to use the official listing for self-managed, the initial setup has to go thought GitLab.com. With the manual install option, this is not necessary, of course.
Can we choose either one option or the other, or do they build on top of each other?
Yes, it’s either one or the other.
