Increase Roadmap length from 3 years to e.g. 5 years or more

Problem to solve > Increase Roadmap timeline limits

Currently one of our teams has a very lengthy project that has been going on for years and will continue so in the future. At this point, the Roadmap feature isn't working well enough, as the project managers/leads would want to plan ahead for more than the max. 18 months in to future as it is now. As we know, the 3 year timeline for Roadmaps consist of 18 months in the future and 18 months from the past, this could be e.g. 36 months in the future or more.

Intended users

Project managers, team leads or someone else in charge of planning Roadmaps within Gitlab.

User experience goal

Better planing capabilities within Gitlab.

Proposal

Increase the total timeline in Roadmaps to e.g. 5 years. Make it possible to adjust the timeline with e.g. a toggle/dropdown menu or a slider, to define the amount of months the past and the future timeline consist of.

Let's say 5 years (60 months) is chosen as the Roadmap lenght > Able to adjust past/future using a slider. So on a 60 month slider , setting it at 6 months in the past means there's 54 months in the future side of the Roadmap

Further details

Long projects need a possibility to plan years ahead. That's why the 18 month limit is really hard for these projects.

Availability

Doesn't affect availability.

Available Tier

Should be available to all paid plans

Feature Usage Metrics

Maybe track the longest roadmaps? Not necessary.

What does success look like, and how can we measure that?

If the limit is increased, that is a success within our organisation.
