Next generation container registry beta program

Beta program

The beta program for the container registry is now open. Please head over to the feedback issue where you can find helpful documentation, and useful feedback from other customers, and ping the GitLab team for help.

Context

As part of the epic &5521, GitLab will release the next generation container registry, with the metadata database and online garbage collection, for self managed installs.

Problem to solve

The problem is that we don't want to do this for every customer at once. Ideally, we would work with a handful of customers at a time so that we can work through any bugs or issues.

Proposal

Offer a beta program for the container registry rollout to self managed. This will allow customers to sign up for an early release and receive help with the migration.

This can be beneficial to customers that are currently facing high storage costs and urgently need support for online garbage collection.
