Add more information about how to use project topics
Problem to solve
The documentation about Topics is not very informative because it doesn't say what it's used for or how the user can use it to their advantage. It says that it categorizes projects, but doesn't give any more information than that.
Proposal
- Gather information about how Topics categorizes projects.
- Add a conceptual section in the Manage projects page (something like 'Categorizing projects with topics' or 'Organizing projects with topics') that can be linked to from Administering Topics, Assign topics to a project, and Explore topics.
User feedback
Currently, documentation about topics is located at the following links:
-
https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/user/admin_area/index.html#administering-topics (A note for administrators that topics are public - I believe this documentation is in the wrong location for GitLab SaaS users)
The assigned topics are visible only to everyone with access to the project, but everyone can see which topics exist on the GitLab instance. Do not include sensitive information in the name of a topic.
-
https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/user/project/working_with_projects.html#explore-topics (No mention all topics are public and not to include sensitive information)
