Merge Project settings into Manage projects
Problem to solve
The Project settings and Manage projects pages are not aligned with the structure of some of the Project documentation with IA structures of Epics, Issues, and Groups. To achieve a pattern in the structure of our IA, these pages should be merged into Manage projects
.
The structure of the Epics/Issues/Groups is broadly:
- Epics/Issues/Groups
- Create
- Manage
- Troubleshooting
- Tutorial
Further details
The Project settings and Manage projects pages, and also the section Organize work with projects, are quite messy, and it's not very clear where to look for information about a specific feature or setting.
- "Organize work with projects" includes several subsections that are not all directly related to project organization (for example, "Deploy keys" and "Search").
- "Project settings" is a broad category, and documenting everything in one section looks overwhelming and hard to follow. It would be better to split this section into three, as they appear in the UI: "Visibility, project features, permissions".
- Some information is duplicated or split between project settings and management (for example, search and topics).
Proposal
- Organize content in Project settings and Manage projects so that the two can be merged into Manage projects and follow the IA standards in Epics, Issues, and Groups.
Proposed structure:
- Set up and manage projects
- Create a project
- Manage projects
- View all projects for the instance
- View projects you are a member of
- View personal projects
- View starred projects
- View projects pending deletion
- View project activity
- Edit project name and description
- Delete a project
- Migrate projects (similar to Migrate groups)
- Import a project
- Export a project
- Transfer a project
- Archive a project
- Unarchive a project
- Restore a project
- Leave a project
-
Configure project features and permissions
- Project analytics
- Project topics
- including assigning topics
- CVE identifier
- Email notifications
- Project visibility (add changing visibility to public access)
- Search in projects
- Use a project as a Go package
